Different Types of Industrial Pumps
We have many different types of pumps in the market, usually if you are using something in an Industry then it does require you to have precision, and you need to choose the right type of Industrial Pump for your needs. You must check the pump for the types of fluids it can take it, the maximum flow rate of the pump with the types of pressure the pump can handle and even the properties of the liquid with which the pump can work with.
There are three different types of Industrial Pumps available which are as follows:
• Filter Press Pumps
• Positive Displacement
• Air Driven Pumps
Now let us talk about these pumps in detail:
Filter Press Pumps
These are the most common pumps which you will find in any type of industrial uses, these pumps are even used for general usage hence being used in Industries is quite obvious. These pumps are usually chosen for different types of applications, the pumps are available if you need to pump up liquid in small quantity to liquids pumped up in large quantities.
Filter Press Pumps use a single impeller to suck the liquid from the inlet point where it will cause a low pressure which will result in a suction force at the inlet port while at the outlet port there will be a high pressure which increases the pressure of the liquid and makes it quite thicker. The Impeller’s basic usage is to provide the right amount of velocity to the fluids or liquids so that they can reach ahead in the discharge lines.
Positive Displacement Pumps
These are other common types of pumps available, these pumps work by expanding the suction side cavity and decreasing the outlet side cavity. Here the expanded suction side makes the liquid to flow inwards while the decreased cavity on the outlet side makes the liquid to flow out of the pump into the discharge lines. The Volume of the liquid thrown into the discharge line remains the same throughout the operation of the pumps.
The Positive Displacement pumps don’t build up negative or positive pressure at the either end, but still, produces the same flow of water at the same RPM as that of the Centrifugal pump. One of the downsides of the Positive displacement pump is that you cannot operate it when the discharge valve is shut off by mistake, it will produce drastic effects on the pump.
The positive displacement pump doesn’t have a shutoff head as the centrifugal pump comes with, if the discharge line is blocked and the positive displacement pump is working then a pressure can build up, which results in damaging the valve and even bursting the lines due to high pressure.
Air Driven Pumps
Using compressed air to drive things is a really old concept. Here this concept is used in a pump where the pumping operation is done via the compressed air. The Air Driven Pumps are versatile and can pump liquids which are thin, viscous and even slurries. It means there are no limitations on the pump when it comes about the viscosity of the liquids. Air Driven pumps can be used without any electricity hence if you are working with a couple of flammable gases then you can use these air driven pumps which will save you from any kind of explosions due to any fault.
These are some common types of pumps available for pumping different types of fluids in the industry, but there are still many different types of pumps available which are used to pump different types of fluids, these are the commonly known pumps working around the same principles as the above-listed one.
• Rotary Positive Displacement Pumps
• Reciprocating Positive Displacement Pumps
• Slurry Pumps
• Rotary Gear Pumps
• Air Cooled Pump
• Diaphragm Pump
• Piston Pump
• Thermal Hot Oil Pump
• Vertical Pump
• Mixed flow pumps
There are much more different pumps also available but these are the commonly used pumps for the industrial purposes.
